Chinese compulsory education is 9 years: 6 years primary school, 3 years junior middle school, after compulsory education, students can choose to 3 years high school or choose to study vocational education.
Chinese education has two semesters: Spring semester and Fall semester, Spring semester is normally from March to July, Fall semester is from September to February. The academic year starts from September and end in July. Between two semester there is winter holiday (about 30- 40 days), and between two academic years, there is summer holiday (about 50-60 days).
China has Nationwide Unified Examination for Admissions to General Universities and Colleges (Gao Kao 高考), in the third year of high school, on the date of 7th to 8th June, the Gao Kao will be held. Every year more than 10,000,000 Chinese students will attend this exam and after 20 days, the exam result will be released to show whether they can get admission or not. The total marks of Gaokao is 750: English 150, Chinese 150, Math 150, General science/General arts 300.
Chinese higher education is generally divided into 5 types:
Vocational education(职业教育): 3 years diploma
Polytechnic education (专科): 3 years diploma
Bachelor education (本科): 4-5 years (Medicine is 5years)
Master education (硕士): 2-3 years
PhD education (博士): 4 years
International students must follow China Education system if they would like to get admission in China.
